Dynasty Log: Washington Huskies start off 3-0; Defeat #1 Buckeyes!
The 2016 Washington Huskies started the season off with a bang, reeling off 3 straight victories over prestigious programs and taking a previously unranked team to #15 in the nation!
The Huskies started off with a blowout win at the Carrier Dome as the Budda Baker-led defense stopped Syracuse the entire night. The special teams unit even got a hand with a blocked punt and return for a touchdown to cap off an impressive 38-7 win. Sophomore back Myles Gaskin rushed for 167 yards on 24 carries and topped it off with 2 touchdowns in the landslide victory.
In week 2, the Huskies home opener pitted neighbors Boise St, UW head coach Chris Peterson's former school. Again, the defense led the way dominating the entire game, giving up only a very late 4th quarter touchdown to the Broncos. True freshman cornerback Erik Britt took home the player of the game award with 4 tackles, and a pick six interception. Britt was the face of a very respectable incoming freshman recruiting class for the Huskies and is already showing his potential.
Finally ranked, the Huskies hosted the #1 team in the nation, the Ohio St Buckeyes in Week 3. In a crazy back and forth game which saw a horrific ending in the 1st half where freshman QB Jake Browning threw a pick in the end zone which led to a late Ohio State touchdown, and followed up with an immediate fumble deep in Husky territory with just seconds left in the 2nd quarter, also leading to another Buckeye touchdown. This put OSU up 21-7 at the half with a shell shocked young UW team.
However, in the 2nd half, the UW defense came to play, showing the nation why it's one of the best in the country. The Dawg defense stopped Ohio State on every possession, letting UW come back to tie the game up late in the 4th quarter 21-21.
And I'll let you watch the final 2 minutes for yourself...
