PC Master Race

It's been over 5 years since I've owned a Windows-based computer for personal usage, and probably over 10 years since I've gotten a pseudo-gaming laptop and probably 15+ years since I made a custom-built gaming PC, so I decided to make the jump back to Windows 10 after using a Macbook Air for past few years recently. And I decided I might as well just go out and upgrade the heck out of what I had before because I felt so limited by my thin and light Macbook Air when it came to desktop video editing, photo editing, and the limited gaming I wanted to do on a computer.

After looking around and starting off small and getting larger and larger in terms of specs and performance, I ended up getting a MSI GS40 Phantom laptop which comes loaded with the latest Intel i7-6700HQ processor, Nvidia GTX-970M 3GB RAM video card, and 16GB system RAM, along with two SSDs (1 n.vme pci-e and 1 SATA-3). This should keep me content for a few years, I hope. And if it doesn't, it does come with a Thunderbolt 3/USB-C 3.1 port for potentially adding an external GPU.

That port has already come in super handy. I'm very impressed at how the USB 3.1 can handle power. Previously USB hubs that you wanted to use to display your external monitor and power a bunch of devices required external power if you wanted to use them all in the same hub. Not with USB-C, and it's less than 25% of the price too! I picked up a USB 3.1 hub with HDMI and USB 3.0 ports for less than $30 and daisy chained it to a couple other USB hubs with no external power and I have a ton of devices plugged in and powered. I'm quite impressed!

So with that said, I've been a bit behind on working the mods and stuff I've wanted to as I've been getting the new computer up and running and building upon my new workstation at home. I picked up a new, basically everything from chair to desk to lamp etc etc. So that along with my busy work schedule has kept me a bit away lately.

I'm probably going to be using this space to write about random computers and tech gadgets too, which was my original intention, but I got so engulfed in the Playstation sports modding stuff that it's taken over a bit of this blog space.

Anyway, thanks for reading!
